Seputeh Boosts Emergency Cardiac Care with New AED at Vivo @ 9 Seputeh

A vital piece of life-saving equipment, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), has been installed at the Vivo @ 9 Seputeh Retail Complex, significantly enhancing emergency response capabilities for the estimated 10,000+ individuals who live, work, shop, or study in the area.

The AED was generously donated by RENN Asia Wellness and the Rotary Club of Ara Damansara (RCAD). During the installation ceremony, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok stressed the urgency of increasing AED availability in public areas due to high rates of heart disease in Malaysia. “Access to AEDs should be as common as fire extinguishers. An AED isn’t just equipment—it represents hope,” she stated.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) requires immediate action. Jonathan Chew, CEO of RENN Asia Wellness, explained, “Every minute without defibrillation reduces survival chances by 10%. Research indicates that administering defibrillation within the first three to five minutes… can improve survival chances by up to 40%.” He added that this complements RENN Asia’s other health services at Vivo, like EECP therapy.

Recognizing that equipment alone isn’t enough, the launch event also featured free CPR and AED usage training by St John’s Ambulance Malaysia. RCAD President Ling Hau Ching emphasized their commitment to public education, noting cardiac arrests can affect people of all ages and mentioning RCAD’s ‘A Life-Saver in Every Home’ (ALEH) campaign.

The new AED, located near the main drop-off point, along with community members trained in its use, provides layers of protection for everyone at Vivo @ 9 Seputeh.
