A little girl nearly drowned while playing in an inflatable swimming pool at her home. Fortunately, her life was saved thanks to her mother’s performing CPR on her. The father, Abdullah, shared CCTV footage and his experience on Facebook. This was then shared by Public Health Malaysia to raise awareness among parents to learn CPR and be vigilant.

Abdullah said his daughter was playing in the pool in the backyard at around 2.30 p.m. when she suddenly started to drown. At first, she tried to hold on to a chair to get up. But when her brother found her, she was lying motionless in the pool.

“My wife immediately pulled Alita out of the water. She is a retired nurse from the University of Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM). She calmly performed CPR on our child, who was not moving at the time,” he said.

Despite the fact that the girl’s body was stiff and swollen, she didn’t give up. She continued CPR, calling her name until she showed some response. After five minutes of CPR, the girl regained consciousness. She was quickly rushed to Ipoh Hospital.

Abdullah said his daughter was later transferred to the PHDU ward after she was stabilized in the emergency room. Still, she had a seizure at 10 p.m., possibly due to a short period of oxygen deprivation at noon. She was therefore under close observation in intensive care. Fortunately, Abdullah’s daughter is now in recovery and has been discharged from the hospital.

They decided to put the inflatable pool away until she was older or never use it again, as they felt their daughter was too young to play in it. “A tragedy can happen in just five minutes,” said Abdullah, who uploaded the video to remind other parents to be careful. “Children are our hope and responsibility. Please make sure you take good care of them,” he added.
